The Grizzly Bear is a popular design choice on Canadian coinage because of the creatures place in Canadian history. The grizzly is the second-largest carnivore on the North American continent, and usually avoids contact with human beings.
On the reverse face of the coin you’ll find Pierre Leduc’s roaring grizzly design. With a larger surface area to use on the silver coin, Leduc added intricate background details of the grizzly’s natural habitat, including forested mountains and a small creek running through the design. The lone engraving on this face reads “Canada.”
The obverse side of the coin features the right-profile portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, a standard design for all Canadian coinage. The engravings “Elizabeth II,” “D.G. Regina,” and “125 Dollars” are featured on this side along with Her Majesty’s effigy.
Royal Canadian Mint coins are coveted by numismatists everywhere. These 2016 500 Gram Canadian Silver Roaring Grizzly Coins mark the end of the silver Call of the Wild Series, and make the perfect addition to any nature-themed collection.
