Buy 1964 90% Silver Kennedy Half Dollars ($500 FV, BU)
The half-dollar coin was far from the largest denomination in production in the United States when it debuted alongside the other first denominations from the United States Mint in 1794. However, today the half dollar is the largest denomination of coin still in production and circulation in the United States. From 1794 to 1964, all US circulation silver coins had 90% silver content. That includes the very first year of the Kennedy Half Dollar design. Now, 90% Silver Kennedy Half Dollars are available to you for purchase online from Pacific Gold and Diamond.
Coin Highlights:
- Coins arrive inside of a bag with a total of 1,000 Kennedy Half Dollars!
- Only date mark available is 1964!
- Contains .715 Troy oz of actual silver content.
- Issued a face value of $.50 (USD) per coin by the United States.
- On the obverse is President John F. Kennedy.
- The reverse includes a modified presidential seal.
The Kennedy Half Dollar design is the eighth overall design for the US half dollar and the current design still in use today. While the US Mint went through three different designs on this denomination in the first 45 years of availability, it would go through just five over the next 120 years. The Seated Liberty design was the longest-running design on the coin until 2017, at which point the Kennedy design became the longest-running image in the series.
Another factor that sets the 1964 Kennedy Half Dollar apart from others is the use of 90% silver. Every coin in this denomination prior to 1964 had 90% silver content. However, 1964 was the last year for all denominations to feature 90% silver. As 1964 was the debut date mark of the Kennedy Half Dollar, that makes it the only Kennedy Half Dollar date mark with 90% silver.
On the obverse face of 90% Silver Kennedy Half Dollars is the left-profile portrait of President John Fitzgerald Kennedy. This design was created by Gilroy Roberts and includes inscriptions of “Liberty,” “In God We Trust,” and the date mark.
The reverse side of 90% Silver Kennedy Half Dollars features a design of a modified presidential seal from Frank Gasparro. Based on the heraldic eagle of the United States, the design features the eagle with arrows in one talon, an olive branch in the other, and the US national heraldic shield on its chest.
These 90% Silver Kennedy Half Dollars are available to you in a bag with a total of 250 Kennedy Half Dollars. These add up to a total face value of $500 (USD). Each coin is in Brilliant Uncirculated condition, features a 1964 date mark, and has 90% silver content. The balance of the coins is 10% copper.
