The Lunar Series III collection launched at the Perth Mint in 2020. It is the third version of the lunar-themed coins from Perth and features an all-new effigy of Queen Elizabeth II on the obverse side of the coins. Throughout most of the Lunar Series I program and the entire Lunar Series II collection, the mint featured the Ian Rank-Broadley design of Her Majesty.

Starting in 2018, the Perth Mint switched to its sixth-generation portrait of Elizabeth II, a design created in 2015 for the Royal Mint by Jody Clark. This design is the latest effigy of the Queen during her reign and it has featured on Lunar Series coins only since the launch of the Lunar Series III collection in 2020.

Queen Elizabeth II is on the obverse of 2022 1/2 oz Australian Gold Lunar Tiger Coins. This portrait of the Queen is a right-profile relief that features Her Majesty wearing the George IV State Diadem Crown. This is the first effigy of the Queen on Australian coins since 1966 to include her shoulders in the portrait.

A powerful tiger is depicted in the reverse field of 2022 Australian Gold Lunar Tiger Coins. The image shows a tiger as it walks along the edge of a rocky cliff. As the tiger walks along, it looks back over its shoulder to unleash its thunderous roar. The wide-open jaw of the powerful cat showcases its razor-sharp teeth.
